OVW & Netflix Collaboration Could Have Implications For Other Promotions

OVW is set to have a reality series on Netflix

Ohio Valley Wrestling was a former developmental territory for WWE before FCW/NXT began. Now, it’s ran like any other promotion under Al Snow. Back in May, Netflix started filming a reality series that’ll be focused around OVW. Now, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reports that this could have implications for other major companies.

OVW shocked many in the wrestling world, when it was revealed that they landed a deal with a major streaming service for a reality series. Quickly after reporting the news, Fightful was able to confirm that Netflix was the streaming service discussed. Since the story ran, we’ve learned that this has been in the works for months, and features producers involved with Last Chance U. In addition, we’ve heard that filming started at the May 27 OVW show in Georgetown, Kentucky. A particularly interesting part of the deal, is we’ve heard that Netflix retains right of first refusal on the ability to gain OVW’s television rights. This is particularly notable because Netflix has reportedly looked into live streaming content, and if true and successful, could be a player in the rights fees negotiations surrounding WWE and AEW in the coming years.
