Jake Roberts Told Vince McMahon To Fire Shawn Michaels And Bret Hart

Jake Roberts is one of the most legendary figures in wrestling. The originator of the DDT and one of the more legendary heels of his era – he struck fear into the hearts of fans by using his pet snake as a weapon.

Of course, we are all aware of the part DDP played in helping get Jake healthy. He was also one of the more senior competitors in the WWE during this era and currently works in AEW, managing Lance Archer. Recently Roberts was on Talk Is Jericho and spoke about being part of the creative team in the 90’s.

“I used to have to sit when we were writing television when Shawn and Bret were throwing their pissy fights against each other. We would be trying to write television, and Vince would get on the phone for three hours with those two cats. Trying to get them to wrestle each other, I said, ‘Vince, what are you doing? Fire the mother****ers, man, tell them to hit the f***ing road.’”

Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart had an infamous personal rivalry and Jake Roberts was sick of it

Roberts clearly was fed up watching the two WWE legends having pissing contests. Roberts also shared a quote from Vince McMahon himself where Vince referenced The Kliq’s creative control in 1996.

“When he brought me back in ‘96 he told me, ‘Jake, look around and see where you think the problem is.’ I said, ‘it’s real simple, man, the inmates are running the asylum, The Kliq.’ The Kliq nearly killed the business, everybody says how great they were, well let me tell you something, they drove it to the ground, whatever.”

Clearly Roberts was not a fan of The Kliq’s antics or the amount of creative control they had in the 90’s. Roberts continues to work for AEW as an on screen talent.
