Top Japanese Wrestler Set to Join AEW on Full Time Basis

Another wrestler is set to walk through the now infamous ‘Forbidden Door’, and appear on our television screens very soon. On the 20th of March this year, AEW Head of Talent Relations Christopher Daniels, announced that AEW and Japanese promotion DDT Pro Wrestling had come to an agreement to bring Japanese talent to American shores to appear on AEW programming.

Following this, it was revealed that DDT star Konosuke Takeshita would soon be joining All Elite Wrestling, in line with the announced March agreement. On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer revealed, that Takeshita was currently Stateside, and that his deal to join AEW was on a long term basis.

“Takeshita’s in. Konosuke Takeshita, he’s pretty much the top star in DDT, been KO-D Champion many, many times, and I think he’s still in his mid 20s. He’s in AEW as a full-time regular.

Unlike these New Japan guys that come for a show, or maybe two or three shows or whatever, for a couple of weeks, like Suzuki right now.
He’s (Takeshita’s) in the United States, and he’s gonna be working for AEW for the next… I don’t know how long, but months and months. I don’t know if it’s gonna be a year or what, but he’s gonna be in the United States. He will go back to DDT for some big shows, kinda like Michael Nakazawa does, like Omega would have been doing had he been healthy.”

Takeshita previously appeared on AEW programming in dark shows, as well as during the company’s one and only ‘House Show’ – ‘The House Always Wins’ – prior to Double or Nothing in April 2021, where he teamed with DDT Pro Wrestling alumni, Kenny Omega and Michael Nakazawa, as well as the Young Bucks’, in a ten man tag team match, against the ‘Death Triangle’ trio of Ray Fenix, Penta El Zero M, and PAC, as well as the Sydal Brothers Matt and Mike
