16 of the best independent wrestlers from across the world, with competitors from America, Japan, England, Hungary, Switzerland, France, Germany and more, will compete in a single elimination tournament.
Throughout today wXw Germay have been announcing the first round matches;
Cara Noir vs Vincent Hisenburg
Cara Noir, from England, is the current Progress Wrestling Champion and competed in and won the last wXw 16 Carat tournament in 2020. Vincent Hisenburg will be competing in his first ever 16 Carat Tournament but should not be underestimated, standing at 6ft 6inches tall and weighing in at a colossal 308lbs Hisenburg is a mountain of man capable of destroying anyone in his path.
Prediction: Cara Noir to advance
Robert Dreissker vs Abe Funimori
Robert Dreissker is the current coach of the wXw Germany wrestling academy and has been competing for wXw Germany since 2013, he has countless titles with wXw but has never won the 16 Carat Tournament, will this be his year? Abe Funimori is the current Zero 1 World Jr Heavyweight Champion and will be be competing outside of Japan for the first time in his career.

Maggot vs Acey Romero
The former MLW and IMPACT Wrestling star Acey Romero will be looking to make a good impression heading to Europe for his first matches outside of America. The German born Maggot has predominately been seen in tag team action for wXw as 1 half of the Pretty Bastards, now he is competing as single competitor, winning the 16 Carat Tournament would establish him as a main event player.

Aigle Blanc vs Peter Tihanyi
Tihanyi just booked his place in this years 16 Carat after winning a separate tournament for the spot at the recent road to 16 Carat, the young man from Hungary is seen as one of the best young competitors in Europe. Agile Blanc is protege of French sensation Senza Volto, the high flying Luchador from France will be competing in his first wXw 16 Carat.

Lu Fisto vs Dennis “Cash” Dulling
Dennis “Cash” Dulling claimed one of the two final spots in this years tournament this past weekend at Road To 16 Carat, often seen as the comedy relief he should not be underestimated as he can be a truly crafty wrestler. Lu Fisto was recently awarded a spot in the Independent Wrestling Hall of Fame and is the first ever woman to enter 16 Carat tournament she has already made history but can she be first woman to win the 16 Carat.
Prediction: Lu Fisto to advance
Shigehiro Ire vs Senza Volto
This will be Shigehiro’s second entry into the 16 Carat tournament previously competing in 2020 where he got past the first round only to be defeated by Jurn Simmons in the quarter finals. Shigehiro will be hoping to go further in this year’s tournament. The French sensation Senza Volto will be making his first appearance for in the 16 Carat tournament could he be first French competitor to win the 16 Carat Tournament?

Michael Knight vs Biff Busick
Biff Busick fka Oney Lorcen on NXT will be looking to make an impression in what is one of the competitors biggest dates since being released from the WWE. The German Highlight Michael Knight makes his first appearance in the 16 Carat following a 15 year career, Knight will be looking to make the most of this opportunity to get a shot at the wXw Unified World Championship.

Bobby Gunns vs Jonathan Gresham
The current ROH Champion Jonathan Gresham has competed with wXw sporadically since 2013 even competing in the 2013 16 Carat Tournament, but this will be his first entry into the tournament since 2013. The former longest reigning wXw Germnay Unified World Champion Bobby Gunns will be entering the 16 Carat tournament for the first time and will see this as the quickest route back to the championship, if he can win the tournament.
Prediction: Jonathan Gresham to Advance
The 16 Carat Gold Weekend runs through the 4th to the 6th of March in Oberhausen Germany, the Weekend not only includes the 16 Carat Gold Tournament but also the Ambitionz Tournament presented by the Last Word Podcast.
There will also be an international showcase featuring promotions from around the world including Wrestle Carnival from England, Passion Pro from Hungary, Smash Wrestling from Canada, Bodyslam Pro from Denmark, APC Catch from France and Bodyzoi from Belgium.
