Internal Belief in WWE That Kevin Owens Could Leave the Company

Yesterday we shared a report from Fightful Select stating that Kevin Owens’ current deal with WWE will end this coming January, almost a full year earlier than anyone had previously been led to believe. The COVID-19 pandemic is believed to be the reason for the former Universal Champion’s restructured deal, but no other specific reasons were given.

In an update to Fightful Select’s report, Jon Alba of the Living the Gimmick podcast has confirmed that Owens deal with WWE does indeed end sometime this January.

Not only that but it was also included in Alba’s report that some within the company believe that Owens is already on his way out the door.

“In speaking with some WWE sources throughout the day, there is very much an internal belief Owens is gone at the end of his WWE deal. He has dropped multiple hints on social media in the last 24 hours that allude to him being AEW-bound.”

If Owens were to cross enemy lines, he would join an already legendary 2021 free agent class for Tony Khan’s booming promotion. The former Kevin Steen would join the likes of CM Punk, Bryan Danielson, Adam Cole, Andrade El Idolo, Ruby Soho, Malakai Black, Christian Cage, and Thunder Rosa as another huge name to sign with AEW.
