Sami Zayn Opens Up About His Stubbornness Over WWE Creative Sometimes

Sami Zayn has been outspoken about a lot of things in his life, it’s no secret if you see him talk about his views sometimes on SmackDown or even on social media. He’s opening up about how it’s been detrimental to him at times in the world of pro wrestling.

Sami was a guest of Renee Paquette’s on her Oral Sessions podcast where he opened up and confessed he is sometimes “combative” with the storylines he’s given in the WWE. He likes having control and creative input, something that can be difficult in the WWE.

“Part of my process is when I’m working with writers, I’m putting my stuff together. I want to put it together. This is how I like to work. I like to be in charge of the idea or not in charge. I like to have my idea. I like to give it to you and I like you to edit it a little bit and make it concise, make it deliverable in the allotted time we need, or in the case of a producer, make sure it’s in line with Vince’s vision or whatever.”

“That’s what I like. I have in certain moments been cold and difficult or whatever, but you’ll find that the only times I will be difficult is when things are being dictated to me. I don’t like that. I’ll admit I can be difficult for sure if you’re dictating what I have to do, especially if I don’t think it’s good. If you dictate, ‘Here is what you have to do’, and it’s great, I’m like, ‘Oh man, that’s great. I’ll go with that. You won’t get any pushback from me.’ But if you’re telling me, ‘Here, this is what you’re doing’, and it’s not good, I will be combative.”

One of the things that Zayn admitted to during this is his “problem is I’m not the best” when it comes to “playing the game” as far as backstage politics go. Unfortunately that can be equally as important as in-ring and microphone skills in professional wrestling, and it’s wound up leading to him having heat in the past.
