One of the storylines the WWE featured prominently in 2020 was the feud between Seth Rollins and Rey Mysterio. At times, the storyline was criticized for either carrying on too long or the derided “eye for an eye” match involving the two at Extreme Rules last year.

Rollins talked about the benefits of storytelling in the WWE ThunderDome, but he also admitted some angles may have overstayed their welcome. While being proud of the eye for an eye match, he feels the angle with Mysterio might have been a little much. Rollins addressed this and more on the Out of Character podcast.

“Some stories have overstayed their welcome, but we’ve definitely been allowed to tell fully fleshed out stories over six or seven months that we wouldn’t get through normally because a live crowd would force creative to change course. I had a blast working with the Mysterios, though things got carried away at the end. I was proud of the eye-for-an-eye match.”

WWE’s choices for that match were derided. Whether it was the fake eyeball, the bad editing, or Rollins puking following the match, it’s left a long term effect on the show as Rey Mysterio still keeps an eye covered on his mask. Whether or not fans liked it, Rollins seems proud of it. However, those benefits of storytelling in the ThunderDome, Rollins addressed in the same podcast.
