The main event of AEW Revolution PPV saw Kenny Omega retain his World Championship over Jon Moxley in an Exploding Barbwire Deathmatch, however the ending of the match did not live up to the hype.
The ending of the match saw Omega and The Good Brothers attack Moxley, leaving him chained up and left in the middle of the ring as the countdown for the final explosion ticked away. As the seconds neared 0, out came Eddie Kingston to make the save on Moxley, as he tried to free Moxley from the restraints so that he could get him out of the ring before everything blew up..
But, Eddie was unable to get Mox out of the ring in time, so instead he “sacrificed” himself to protect his friend.. Sounds good on paper, but the execution left fans with a bad taste in their mouth. There was apparently a malfunction with the final explosion, which caused the big explosion for the finish to under deliver.
Following the match, Moxley grabbed a microphone once the PPV went off the air and addressed the mishap. Moxley stated:
“Kenny Omega may be a tough son of a bitch, but he can’t make an exploding ring worth a shit.”
