MJF Talks About Learning From Jim Cornette And What He Learned From Legendary Managers To Draw Crowd Heat

There’s a lot of people who compare MJF to the heels of old school. Whether or not it’s his willingness to constantly remain in character, the way he draws heat, or any other reason you like, MJF has been exceptional at drawing heat and one person he’s openly admitted to learning from is one of AEW’s biggest critics, Jim Cornette.

Speaking on the Wrestling Perspective Podcast, MJF opened up about how he had worked with Cornette quite a bit and admitted to not liking some people in AEW, similar to Cornette. While mentioning other great people who knew how to draw heat like Bobby Heenan and the late Grand Wizard, MJF revealed he took advantage during his time in MLW to learn from the manager of the Midnight Express.

“So, I worked with Jim Cornette more than I think people realize when I was in Major League Wrestling. And getting to go back and forth with him — look, is he a fan of guys on my roster? Absolutely not, but if I’m being honest, neither am I. But he’s a very smart guy, he understands how to manipulate an audience. I loved his work, I loved Bobby ‘The Brain’ Heenan’s work. Even Grand Wizard. He might not have necessarily been the greatest promo of all time, but the guy understood how to manipulate a crowd without even speaking. I mean, there’s been so many great managers of the past. Paul Heyman obviously. We’re both Jews, we’re both very affluent. And we’re both very good at speaking and we’re both from New York. so Paul Heyman also another guy who is most certainly a big influence on me.”

While it’s unlikely Jim Cornette will ever work for AEW, MJF certainly took a chance on learning from him. Cornette has always been a fan of the Salt of the Earth and it seems the appreciation is mutual. You can watch the interview below.
