Eric Bischoff Thinks AEW Needs To Embrace Their Underdog Status

AEW has done a lovely job on Wednesday nights, even managing to turn them into a ratings war that’s seen them come out on top the majority of Wednesdays. However, someone wants to make sure they don’t see they don’t view this as dominating the competition in all aspects.

Eric Bischoff talked about this on his 83 Weeks podcast, and though he likes AEW, he knows WWE has a lot of things AEW doesn’t have in their pocket that allows them a greater chance at success.

“WWE still has a lot of advantages that AEW doesn’t have. They’ve been around a lot longer, they’ve got a built in audience between Monday Night and Friday Night. It’s easy to cross promote their different shows. AEW doesn’t have that advantage.”

Bischoff has strong concerns the company is feeling too successful as it continues to win on Wednesday nights. While they’re maintaining success on that night, Bischoff has pointed out that they’re not going up against WWE’s best show, and they need to embrace the idea they’re still the underdogs.

“Be careful of trying to create a false sense of success. Be careful about trying to brag and create this false sense of superiority for AEW and lose sight of the fact that they’re really not competing with the A game. They’re competing against the C game for WWE. If you acknowledge that and embrace that underdog vibe that AEW has, because everybody wants to see the underdog win, that’s what made the Monday Night Wars fun that competition. But in the position AEW’s in now, the biggest advantage they have is the disadvantage they have. Embrace the disadvantage, embrace the underdog status.”

AEW continues to grow their company, and while they might not be ready for a full direct competition against WWE on Monday or Friday nights, they’ve carved a place for themselves on Wednesdays as they continue to grow and expand.
