Nick Jackson Talks About The Difficulties That Come With Being EVP Of AEW

One of the tenets The Young Bucks worked around when they became The Elite with Cody Rhodes, Kenny Omega, Adam Page, and Marty Scurll was the desire to “change the world.” Eventually the desire became to “change the universe,” which some may say was the basis of them founding All Elite Wrestling with Rhodes, Omega, Page, and Tony Khan.

The Executive EVPs of AEW recently spoke with Chris Van Vliet about several topics, one of them being the biggest challenge that comes with being two of the EVPs of the company. Nick Jackson said that while running AEW still feels like a dream, there’s still a sense that sometimes they have to be the bad guy when it comes to having to keep everyone on the same page and everyone happy.

“I never would have thought that we’d be doing this on a weekly basis, so I have to pinch myself every Wednesday before we go on live. So that aspect is still there. It still feels like a dream. The hard part is the job and keeping everyone happy because you don’t even really realize it until you get into management that’s it’s hard to keep a lot of these wrestlers on the same page. Because obviously there’s a lot of egos in wrestling and you want the wrestlers to be happy and that’s something that’s hard but it’s manageable and we’ve learned that you can’t always be the good guy so at some points you have to be the bad guy.”

Running a promotion can be difficult at times when you want both talent and management to be happy with the product. Not every wrestler will agree with every decision, so the balancing act of being the boss and “one of the boys” is a fine line to tread that the Bucks are navigating every week before Dynamite goes on air.
