WWE Discussing Potential Lucha Libre Project

WWE has continued to look at ways to diversify and expand their programming, and after the talk of NXT India and a show that’s said to be “NXT for NXT,” it seems like they may just have another idea coming.

A new report by Wrestling Inc. says that WWE has been discussing a lucha libre series, amounting to NXT Mexico “of sorts.”

It’s said the show will air in the USA and WWE “has spoken with a few people about running the project.”

Right now, the idea is in early planning stages unlike the previous expansions mentioned. Chavo Guerrero Jr.’s name has been brought up as a consultant for the project, but nothing is confirmed. People are comparing the project to the short lived “Festival de Lucha” project from Telemundo. WCW filmed the pilot in 1999 but it never saw the light of day until WWE Network placed it in their Hidden Gems section.

With great lucha talents like Gran Metalik and Santos Escobar on the roster and rising stars like Raul Mendoza and Humberto Carrillo at their disposal, there is no telling what they could do with the show as they look to expand their programming and create more original content for the WWE Network.
