Joe Hendry Talks Loyalty To Ring Of Honor Thanks To Treatment From Company During COVID-19 Pandemic

Joe Hendry has worked hard to build his name in professional wrestling.

From humble beginnings in ICW in Scotland in 2013 to a stop in Impact Wrestling in 2018 and now a signed Ring of Honor talent starting in late 2019, Hendry has shown that he’s not just a capable in-ring competitor but an all around athlete and entertainer.

Hendry is not only a well versed songwriter and musician, but competed in the 2018 Commonwealth Games in amateur freestyle wrestling. Starting as “The Local Hero” and now as “The Prestigious One,” Hendry has found himself in a good spot in professional wrestling. Even more so in Ring of Honor.

Hendry has not been seen in almost a year on Ring of Honor television, but he remains part of the roster. Even as AEW has brought back overseas talent like PAC, and NXT has seen the return of Pete Dunne and the Grizzled Young Veterans, Hendry remains overseas waiting for the return to Ring of Honor. Hendry talked about his absence with Frank Mandolini and the Last Minute Wrestling Podcast and the possibility of when we might see him back in RoH.

“If it was up to me I’d be on a plane or a boat tomorrow. It’s difficult because the borders are somewhat closed but the embassy can make exceptions and I believe we can make a strong case to make that exception. Here’s where you gotta get ROH a lot of credit. They’ve got this bubble in which everything is meticulously tested, everything is top notch, but to be that safe and precise everything has to be thought out and planned logistically […] they have to go back and forth with the commission on who’s gonna be there, how long they gonna be isolating and all that. I don’t have any exact date on when I’ll be back yet, but my best guess is early 2021.”

Hendry isn’t just dead in the water for RoH though. Hendry has remained a consistent presence on their YouTube channel, and they’ve certainly given him a platform to continue being a presence in the company. Hendry also revealed not only is the company keeping him under contract, but paying him as normal during this difficult time.

“That is a loyalty for me that will not be forgotten and will be reciprocated […] by the time I get back there I might have not wrestled for them for a year. A year! How easy would have been for Ring Of Honor to just go ‘Sorry Joe!’ you know? Would have been completely in the rights to do so, but they go: ‘you know what? we got something here for you!’ and I appreciate that. It goes beyond money for me.”

Hendry plans on remaining loyal to the same company that’s been loyal to him. In the meantime, you might want to help Joe Hendry and buy a shirt. You can see his pitch for you to buy his shirt below.
