Kenny Omega Says Matches At Daily’s Place Are “Killing Him”

AEW has found a steady location at Daily’s Place in Jacksonville during the pandemic, giving them an opportunity to have a feel all their own. However, it’s still a challenge unique to AEW compared to other major companies because it’s an outdoor amphitheater and Kenny Omega has recognized that.

Omega spoke with Wrestling Observer Radio and discussed their ring among a variety of other topics, calling the venue a difficult place to perform.

“No one watches our show and realizes these guys are in 100 degree weather. It’s damp, it’s moist, the ring canvas is slippery. The ring is so bouncy in comparison to what I’m used to in New Japan where it’s like running in quicksand. I’m telling you it’s the most destructive environment that I’ve ever been in for professional wrestling.”

“Yeah, you’re going out there for less time in general. I’m doing 15 minutes or 20 minutes rather than 30 or 40, but these performances are killing me.”

Omega added that after his match at Full Gear against Adam Page, he needed an ice pack to get his body temperature down, using it for two hours until he felt normal. Of course, the season is changing and evenings are getting a little colder in Jacksonville. Omega said that the cold winds hit them in the venue and it’s a chilling experience.

Daily’s Place is a unique environment all its own in professional wrestling, and while watching Dynamite or an AEW PPV from home may not give you the full understanding, Omega has given fans an explanation of how it feels from the perspective of a wrestler.
