Earlier this week it was reported that Yoshinobu Kanemaru would not be competing in the upcoming Best Of Super Jr 2020 tournament due to a Knee Injury he picked up on the Road To Power Struggle. In his place, the young lion Yuya Uemura was entered into the tournament, Uemura was ever present through out the G1 Climax and Road to Power Struggle competing against fellow young lions Gabriel Kid and Yota Tsuji.
Yuya Uemura on being entered into the Best of Super Jr’s;
“I know that my entry is as a result of Kanemaru’s injury, so I can’t say I’m delighted, but when I heard the news, I did get fired up.”

This is not the first time that Yuya Uemura has competed in a Jr Heavyweight tournament, having competed in the teaming with Tiger Mask in the Junior Heavyweight World Tag League 2019, however it did not go so well and they were unable to pick up a single victory.
Uemura on wanting to make up for his Jr Heavyweight world Tag League;
“Last year I was able to enter the Super Jr. Tag League, and unfortunately I ended on zero points. That was a real let down, and I know it was a disappointment for my partner Tiger Mask. I won’t ever live that down. In a league like this, everybody is trying to win. That’s what I learned last year in the tag league; I have to be aiming for the top the whole time.”

Uemura has impressed as of late putting on incredible matches with Gabriel Kidd and Yota Tsuji, he has recently been wanting to break out of his Young Lion rank and make the step up to a full time member of the NJPW roster.
Uemura on his future plans;
“I’ve been saying for months now that I want to make it into BoSJ, get results, and then maybe be able to challenge for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship. Well, I just about achieved the first goal. Now just to get results!”
