Several Companies Interested In Top MLW Star

The race is on for a top independent wrestling name.

Davey Boy Smith Jr. is under MLW contract, but son of the late British Bulldog’s contract is set to expire soon, and it’s said there’s going to be a race to sign him. Smith has made quite a name for himself in New Japan Pro Wrestling since leaving the WWE, and has been a mainstay of MLW since its restart.

The relationship between him and head of MLW Court Bauer is said to be fine according to a report by the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, but his contract expires December 18th of this year, and there’s already talk about countries all over the world wanting him.

He was at Chris Jericho’s Halloween party this past week and spoke to Tony Khan but they aren’t talking any business until after his MLW deal is up. He’s had interest from WWE, Khan expressed interest, and there is interest from All Japan, Impact and MLW and has no favorite or leaning past saying this decision will be made based on offer and whatever makes the most sense business-wise.

Smith was scheduled to compete in AJPW’s Champion’s Carnival tournament, but he was pulled due to the pandemic. It’s been previously reported Smith was wanted for the NXT:UK brand but nothing materialized from that yet. We’ll see where he turns up by the end of the year or even the start of next.
