AEW’s Internal Mindset On Recent Injuries

AEW managed to find ways to continue through the COVID-19 pandemic, not slowing down in the slightest but still not presenting their wrestlers the need to test and travel on a weekly basis. Their programming, however, was hampered by several injuries through the course of taping these episodes of Dynamite and Dark.

Wrestling Observer Live’s Bryan Alvarez discussed the injury bug that bit the company hard during the course of the year, and found out AEW has a theory why they’ve been hit so hard with injuries. The lack of adrenaline coming that wrestlers get by going out to a packed and cheering arena seems to be changing how some of the wrestlers are working, and it’s leading to these injuries. Of course, this is something that has been brought up repeatedly, the change of working in front of an empty arena or semi-empty one compared to a full house.

“I talked to people in AEW about this flood of injuries that we’ve had for the past several months. Why? What’s going on here? Is this a coincidence? Is this something to do with the pandemic? Obviously everyone is different, but their theory was when you’re out there and you don’t have a packed building full of fans what happens is you’re missing that adrenaline when you go out there. You go out there and you’re a little cold and you don’t have the excitement running through your body like when you go out there with all these fans and their theory is that this may have something to do with it. They’re used to something that’s not there.”

Of course, there could be other reasons in play. Several AEW wrestlers continue to take independent dates and the lack of shows has also led to lack of ring time. There’s several factors to take into consideration as to why these injuries are piling up, but AEW is of the mindset that the missing adrenaline rush is a big factor.
