Update on Chad Gable’s WWE Status

Chad Gable recently regained his original ring name, dropping the Shorty G moniker in a backstage segment a week ago. The reversion to the Gable name led many to believe Gable would be getting renewed attention on Smackdown and bigger things for the former Raw, Smackdown, and NXT Tag Team Champion.

Yet Gable wasn’t used on Smackdown this week. So what happened?

Originally reported by Steve Carrier of Ringside News, the name change meant little for Gable’s status on the roster or an elevation on the card. It seems the former member of American Alpha isn’t a priority for Vince McMahon.

A tenured member of the creative team who has close knowledge of the situation went on to tell Carrier that Gable is “still just an afterthought” to McMahon and potentially other members of the creative team.

The road to coming back to the name from Shorty G has been a long one for Gable. He had a segment cut from Smackdown the week prior to the official name change where it was supposed to happen then, but it was cut for time and featured now Raw superstar Drew Gulak. Despite Vince McMahon not thinking too highly of the former Olympian, he has support on the creative team. Daniel Bryan had been pushing for months to get Gable’s name reverted, but the long delay and now cut segment may just reveal how the WWE views Gable unfortunately.
