G1 Climax 30 Earns Another Two 5 Star Match Ratings

Since the lockdown began due to the Global Health pandemic, Dave Meltzer had only given two matches 5 stars. The first of which was given to the Best Friends Vs Santana and Ortiz street fight match on the September 16th Edition of AEW Dynamite. The second match to earn the coverted 5 star rating from was the match between Will Ospreay and Shingo Tagaki from the NJPW G1 Climax Night 5.

Now two more matches have received not just 5 stars but exceeding the usual 5 star rating and earning themselves a 5.25 rating. The matches were Kota Ibushi Vs Minoru Suzuki as well as Shingo Tagaki Vs Kazuchica Okada. This was revealed in the most recent Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

On the Minoru Suzuki Vs Kota Ibushi match Dave Meltzer would note;

“This was just insane. It was more like a one-take movie fight scene with the hero of the movie facing the monster that won’t die…The scene was spectacular because the idea was the only way to stop Suzuki in a fight was to knock him out cold. So Suzuki laid on his back like he was knocked out cold, and got his big smile on his face.”

On the Kazuchica Okada Vs Shingo Tagaki match Dave Meltzer would note:

“This was totally different from the prior match but every bit of the same level of a classic that would have won match of the year more years than not over the past 30.”
