Backstage Update On WWE Hiring New SmackDown Head Writer

WWE is looking for a new head writer for SmackDown.

WWE listed the job opening for a new SmackDown Head Writer on LinkedIn earlier this week. This comes just a week after news broke that Joe Belcastro had resigned from his position as NXT Head Writer. Triple H commented on Belcastro’s departure stating that he left to pursue other career goals.

According to a new report from Ringside News, the job listing for a new SmackDown Head Writer is a “mystery” to those in the writers room, and people backstage. They state that they were told by a longtime member of the Writing Staff with knowledge of the situation, that “those of us on the team think it’s more of an ‘operations’ lead writer than the ‘creative’ end.”

Their report went on to state that the creative end of things is supposed to fall under the responsibilities of Ed Koskey, and that it was told to them that Ryan Callahan is not “exactly the operations guy” and that he is more creative instead.

It should be noted that WWE did not disclose the details and responsibilities of the SmackDown Head Writer position that is now open on LinkedIn. Instead WWE noted that the full description was “on file.”
