AEW: Dynamite Preview (7/22/20)

Fresh off a very successful Fight For the Fallen Special, All Elite Wrestling returns to form as it presents a pure episode of Dynamite for the first time in four weeks. Tonight’s show has six matches planned at time of writing, with two having unknown entities on one half of the ring.

  • The Butcher & The Blade vs The Young Bucks (Falls Count Anywhere)
  • TNT Championship Match: Cody (c) vs ???
  • Jurassic Express (Jungle Boy & Luchasaurus) vs The Inner Circle (Jake Hager & Chris Jericho)
  • Diamante vs Ivelisse Velez
  • “Hangman” Adam Page vs Five (Alan Angels) w/ Mr. Brodie Lee
  • MJF vs ???

The most intriguing of these is the TNT Championship match in which Cody will continue his weekly open challenge. Last week, he defended the title against Sonny Kiss in what was one of the better matches of his title run, making Kiss feel over more so than any other opponent he has defended the title against. On Tuesday, Tony Khan tweeted that Cody will defend his championship against “one of the top independent wrestlers in the world!”

The money man behind All Elite Wrestling has also said tonight’s Dynamite “will be a great episode.” Currently, Tony Khan has not had the best track record when it comes to his high hopes and promises (ala Jake Hager vs Jon Moxley). However, Khan has gained enough trust within the fan base that it has been better to believe him than to resent. Time will tell if this statement rings true.

Many have been speculating who Cody’s opponent may be, as per, with the most talked about being Warhorse, who has been mentioned by Cody’s manager Arn Anderson. It will be exciting to see how this plays out.

Two more appearances are promised for tonight’s Dynamite. Following their match at Fight For the Fallen last week, both Brian Cage (w/ Tazz) and AEW World Champion Jon Moxley are set to appear in Daily’s Place. Their match last week ended when Tazz threw in the towel to stop Moxley from tearing at Cage’s previously injured arm. With all three men set to be on the same show, will there be a rematch set up for down the line? Tune into AEW: Dynamite at 8/7c on TNT.
