The Current State of Tag Team Wrestling in WWE

In the last couple of years promotions like AEW, ROH, NJPW and others are giving tag team wrestling a major push after years of being consider boring by fans and an afterthought by promoters.

WWE in the other hand has not managed to give tag team wrestling the push other promotions have been able to do.

NXT

NXT is currently WWE’s best product but the tag team division currently is the yellow brand’s weakest division. The Dusty Rhodes Classic this year has been very underdeveloped and the few opportunities it had to make things interesting did not deliver in certain ways, the loss of Time Splitters ( KUSHIDA and Alex Shelly) in the earlier rounds was a big disappointment.

For now NXT is struggling with this division but they do have the talent to make a great division, and only time will tell if NXT will be able to improve their tag team division.

Main Roster

The main roster’s tag team division is in a constant struggle to get better booking. Its well known the fact that Vince McMahon is not a fan of tag team wrestling and the booking of the division shows this. For the most part this division the main roster sees a lot of long but boring title reigns or feuds that involve tag teams going back and forth with the belts.

Great tag teams like The Revival, The New Day , The Usos and others deserve better booking but at this point that is very unlikely.

Women’s Tag Team Division

Asuka and Kairi Sane are a great tag team and their heel work has been outstanding. The problem is that they don’t have a division to have feuds with and this does not help them.

The best thing for this championships could be to send them to NXT, where currently they have the strongest women’s division in the world. NXT could do wonders with this championships or not seeing their current tag team division.
