Jerry Lawler On When He Came To Know About RAW Commentary Offer

NEW YORK, NY - OCTOBER 09: Jerry " The King" Lawler from Headblocked: Wrestling and Comics Collide panel speaks during New York Comic-Con 2015 - Day 2 at The Jacob K. Javits Convention Center on October 9, 2015 in New York City. (Photo by John Lamparski/Getty Images)

Monday Night RAW will soon have Vic Joseph, Dio Maddin, and Jerry Lawler as part of the commentary team. It was certainly a big surprise and apparently, Lawler did not see this coming either.

CommercialAppeal spoke to Jerry Lawler, where he talked about when WWE called him regarding the offer to join the RAW commentary team. It is to be noted that Lawler did not mention anything regarding his job being a temporary one. Here is what he said:

“I got a call about it Tuesday morning from Kevin Dunn. He said, ‘I’ve got a proposition for you. It may be good news, and it may be bad news.’ He knows I don’t like to travel a whole lot anymore, so that was the bad part. I said, ‘What’s the good part?’ He said, ‘We want you back on RAW.’ He told me it’s for however long I want to do it, so that sealed the deal.”

“It was Paul (Heyman’s) idea to put Vic and Dio on RAW. Apparently, what I was told, Vince (McMahon) said, ‘You can’t throw these two new, young guys on our flagship show. Call King.’ That’s how it happened.”

We will get to know soon enough how the new RAW commentary team will perform.
