This week’s episode of SmackDown Live was heavily promoted with angles and segments leading up to the show, however many of them were never featured or mentioned on the broadcast.
Well, it appears as though there is a reason why a lot of the things we had been expecting to see on SDLive didn’t happen. According to Dave Meltzer on the most recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Vince McMahon arrived to the arena for SmackDown Live roughly four hours prior to belltime and rewrote the entire script for the show.
“Okay, so this show is completely different than the show that was written. Because Vince McMahon showed up at 4:00 PM and decided that he didn’t like the show and re-did the show — Vince re-did the show at 4:00 PM before so everything changed.”
“That’s why all the stuff that was advertised — Bryan Danielson’s speech and Shawn Michaels announcing and all that stuff that they talked about all week and then didn’t happen is because Vince changed his mind.”
This is interesting also because this was the first episode of SmackDown Live that Eric Bischoff was reported to be starting his role as Executive Director. We will have to see how things go from here as Bischoff explained that changes to SmackDown will be an “evolution over time”.
