When Did The Rest Of The WWE Roster Find Out About Roman Reign’s Leukemia Announcement

As by now you are probably aware, Roman Reigns relinquished the WWE Universal Title last night on RAW after announcing that he has had a relapse in the leukemia that he was diagnosed with 11 years ago.

But who within the company knew what Roman was going to announce on last night’s RAW?

On the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer discussed the Roman Reigns news and situation. Meltzer stated that he had called around yesterday to check up on the rumors and reports that Roman was injured and that was why he had missed this past weekend’s house shows. He went on to say that he was told that the subject would be addressed on RAW. With that being said, it is not clear how far the news of Roman’s announcement had traveled amongst the roster and staff.

Regarding who might have known what Roman was going to say on RAW, Meltzer said:

“As far as the talent goes, I’m sure the talent learned when he gave the speech, I’m pretty sure of that. Creative knew that there was an issue obviously because they had to redo the show. So they knew that there was an issue.”

Meltzer didn’t go on to guess on whether or not WWE’s creative team knew the exact reasons for the changes that were made on this week’s RAW, however they did know that they had to change the show. So there were people backstage who apparently “knew something was up,” but apparently nobody knew exactly what was up.

It was also noted that Roman will be doing work raising money for leukemia research, and that he will use his celebrity status to gain more exposure to the cause. The most important thing is though that he has to fight this disease and beat it again.
