TNA World Champion Mike Santana Celebrates Three Years Of Sobriety

On February 16, Mike Santana took to his social media Twitter/X account to reveal the huge milestone.

“3 YEARS SOBER.

2/16/23 I took the first step to change my life and everyday since, I’ve been grateful for what this life has given me.

THANK YOU to everyone who’s taken this ride with me the last couple years.”

This is incredible news for Mike, who has been very open about his previous struggles with addiction. His story is great, and being open about it has helped many other people as well.

In a previous interview with TV Insider, Mike Santana talked about how he lets his struggles become a motivation to where he is now.

“What has made me so proud of it is the fact it has been the catalyst to get me where I am today. It has been my biggest motivation, just knowing that I went from rock bottom and used rock bottom to use what I have built today. I was taught in rehab and during the process of getting my life together and getting clean that what helps me stay sober and in the position I’m in mentally and personally is giving away the gift that was so freely given to me. And that was the gift of hope and sobriety and clarity. That’s always something that helps me. Yeah, I’m proud of all the struggles I’ve been through.”

While being featured as a guest on the Rich Eisen show, Mike credits his daughter for helping him realize he needed to get clean.

As his fall into addiction worsened, Santana could no longer hide his actions from his daughter, who ended up including her worries about him in her yearly letter to Santa. “I think she was at her grandmother’s house at the time and her grandmother had told her mom and stuff like that, and that’s when it was like: alright, this is enough!” he recalled. “It was brought to my attention and that was my rock bottom.” Santana recalled how addiction and drugs were prevalent in the house he grew up, and he realized that he’d started to give his daughter the life he vowed she’d never have.

“It was just like: nah, I can’t do this. And I’m thankful, to this day, man, because if it wasn’t for that letter – if it wasn’t for, you know, my family and their support, I wouldn’t be here today,” he added. “I’m thankful, man, because I remind myself every day.”

Recalling the letter, the former AEW star admitted it made him feel lower than he’s ever been, as he realized that his daughter fully understood what was happening. “Her mom told me straight up after that, she was like: ‘Either you get yourself clean and you get yourself together, or we’re gone.’ And she had every right. And that was it; that was all I needed.”
