It was announced earlier this week that Ronda Rousey is returning to MMA, but it’s not under the UFC banner. Ronda will be taking on another women’s MMA veteran in Gina Carano under the MVP promotions banner and the fight will air live on Netflix on Saturday, May 16.
An online debate has sparked after some say that this fight on Netflix will ‘out-do’ UFC’s planned Whitehouse card the following month. As of now, there are no official bouts confirmed for UFC’s card, but, rumored have swirled that Justin Gaethje vs. Ilia Topuria could headline the event. This has many fans arguing about what is the bigger main event and what show will have more viewers. Ronda Rousey herself has now hopped in on the fun, sharing a deadline article about the fight with the caption “This rivalry has so many layers – @netflix isnt playing around – bet you we can beat @paramountplus’ @ufc numbers”

While it’s still heavily debated on what MMA fans would want to see more, and which fight is bigger between Rousey/Carano or Topuria/Gaethje, the fact remains that Netflix has surpassed over 325 Million subscribers, while Paramount+ has surpassed 80 Million. That’s a huge advantage for Netflix, and one that will see many casual viewers tune in, just because they’re able to watch with their Netflix subscription. But, I guess we’ll find out for sure when the fights go down.
