TNA Director Of Operations Daria Rae Discusses How Her Nickname Came About And Her Character In TNA

The new TNA Director of Operations Daria Rae – the former Sonya DeVille in WWE – debuted with the company on January 15 at the premiere of TNA Thursday Night iMPACT! on AMC network. Her first order of business was to announce the signing of Elayna Black – the former Cora Jade in NXT – as the newest Knockout on the roster. Daria goes by “THE SUIT” in TNA.

Daria Rae spoke with Ella Jay from WrestleZone about how her moniker “The SUIT” came to fruition.

“Me and my manager [came up with S.U.I.T. acronym],” Rae told WrestleZone. “We were brainstorming all night, weeks and weeks ago, and we kind of in tandem came up with a lot of the things you see as part of this character. There was lot of things that needed to fall into place for it to work. I was prepared to go in a different direction depending on the crowd reaction. I assumed, coming out as an authority figure, the crowd would boo me, because I’ve been hated for ten years, and I was the evilest of authority figures ever. So, I was like, ‘They’re gonna see right through this. They’re gonna boo me.’

“But Santino did a really good job with the way he presented it, and I came out smiling, attempting to make it work, and it worked, and I’m so grateful for that. Because then it gave me that cool moment to turn on them.”

Rae talks about her role as a heel in the company, and how much more fun she has with it.

“I think it’s a lot more fun to be hated than it is to be loved in the world of wrestling,” she said. “It’s the acting part, right? Yeah, I can go and act like myself, which would be much like our conversation right now. I’m a friendly, happy person. But it’s not as much fun as being able to put on this veil and be this character. So that’s what I take pride in. That’s what I have fun with. I channel some people in my life that I’ve known to get to that character. But, yeah, it’s just more fun.”

Daria Rae has been at odds with TNA Director of Authority Santino Marella since her first day in the company. She seems to be angling to be the sole authority figure in the company, allowing Santino to make decisions that will inevitably be his own downfall.
