UFC’s Mexico card has taken a hit.

UFC Mexico Update

It was revealed yesterday that Asu Almabayev is out of his upcoming UFC Mexico main event bout against Brandon Moreno. The event is scheduled for February 28 at the Arena CDMX in Mexico City. Now, the main event for that card has been changed.

Asu Almabayev took to social media to announce that he suffered a hand injury that will take him out of the fight. “The situation is like this, I got an arm injury two days before our flight,” Almabayev wrote. “I don’t want to talk about the injury … no matter how much you [try], I can’t change it.”

Following this, Al Zullino was first to announce that Lone’er Kavanaugh will step in on short notice to fight Brandon Moreno in Mexico.

With Kavanaugh pulling out of his fight against Bruno Silva for March 14, a replacement for that fight was quickly named as well. Laerte Viana has reported that Charles Johnson has stepped in for the Apex card on March 14 and will fight Bruno Silva.

Charles Johnson is coming off a loss at the first event of the year, UFC 324, where he lost to Alex Perez. Charles was eagerly wanting to get back into the cage as soon as possible, and originally called to be Asu’s replacement. But, he still gets a fight with Bruno. The UFC Flyweight division is on the move.
