Bully Ray Says He Would Not Have Had Gunther Enter 2026 Royal Rumble After Retiring AJ Styles
Bully Ray gave his thoughts on Gunther’s recent run.
At the 2026 Royal Rumble, Gunther submitted and ended the WWE career of the Phenomenal, AJ Styles. A huge accomplishment for the Ring General who has retired three legends in a year, including Golberg and John Cena in the last couple of months as well.
Despite that win, Gunther wasn’t finished and looked to win the 2026 men’s Royal Rumble match but was last eliminated by Roman Reigns who would win his second Royal Rumble of his career.
When asked about his thoughts on the show, the match, and the ending. Bully Ray says he would not have had Gunther enter if it meant he would be last eliminated by Reigns on Busted Open Radio.
“I would have voted ‘no GUNTHER in the Rumble.’ I would want the last thing for the people to remember is the defeat of AJ (Styles).
“Now, they’re gonna show GUNTHER defeating AJ many times. They’re going to remind us of it. “But, you can’t remind us of Roman (Reigns) winning without reminding us of who he threw out last.
“So, GUNTHER will always be involved in that reminder. You’ll see the visual of Roman eliminating GUNTHER, but you might hear GUNTHER’s name. You’ll hear them talk about Roman winning.
“When they remind us about GUNTHER and AJ, they’re gonna remind you that GUNTHER made AJ pass out and AJ had to retire.
“What I did love was the uncertainty when GUNTHER came out at 30, because GUNTHER came to at 30 I did say to myself “holy sh*t, GUNTHER has the opportunity to retire AJ and win the Rumble. Wow, what a night would be for GUNTHER”, so they definitely had me thinking about that.”
Gunther choked out Dragon Lee on the February 2 edition of WWE Monday Night Raw after Lee tried to ambush Gunther for retiring his former tag team partner, Styles, but it did not work out in the end for him either.
