Diego is ready for Saturday.
UFC 325 Main Event
UFC 325 is live from Sydney, Australia on January 30, 2026. The main event of this Saturday’s card is Alexander Volkanovski defending his UFC Featherweight Championship against Diego Lopes in what will be their 2nd clash.
Diego lost to Volkanovski at UFC 314 in April, but then bounced back with a knockout win in September against another rinsing contender in Jean Silva. From that, Diego was granted another shot against the champ, which had many people scratching their heads, as Lerone Murphy and Movsar Evloev are both undefeated contenders, and Diego is getting two shots at the title before they even get one.
Today, Diego sat down with Paramount/CBS Sports where he was asked why he believes that he deserves a title shot over other contenders, and he makes a solid argument.
”I thinks it’s easy, you know? I still have two years and a half in the UFC, I have my second chance for the title, I think the people don’t understand this, but, I make a lot of sacrifices for this moment. I take a lot of fights on short notice. UFC called me many times like “you taking this fight? I need you to step in.” Okay, I take this fight. But, at the same time, this guy tried one fight in the year, maybe two is a lot for this guy, I don’t know what happened. I understand that a lot of guys are so angry, but, I only make my job and accept the fights, you know?”
Diego has had 8 UFC fights since joining the promotion in 2023. In that same span, Movsar has had 3 fights, with none in 2025. Lerone Murphy has six. So, Diego has certainly been the more active fighter of the three top contenders.
But, he can only make it all worth it if he wins this Saturday at UFC 325 live on Paramount+.
