Justin Gaethje now has some gold to prove it.
Justin Gaethje Defeats Paddy Pimblett
UFC 324 is now in the books and in the main event, Justin Gaethje defeated Paddy Pimblett in a war to win the interim UFC Lightweight Championship. Following the bout, Gaethje was interviewed backstage where he spoke about the fight and reminded everyone that he is still one of the best to do it.
”Yeah, I remember him specifically saying that my face was not going to look the same, and his face was going to look the exact same. Right when the fight was done, I was like “look at your fucking face.” I was like “how’s my face look? The same, huh? And your face does not look the same.” I’m petty, I’m competitive, and I love, like I said all week, I loved what he was saying the whole time. You know, he was saying that this was going to be the same exact fight as Chandler, him saying my face is going to be fucked up and his is not going to be touched, these are terrible things and terrible ways to think when you’re fucking walking into a cage. You can’t think like that, you have to understand how much danger you’re in. No matter how shitty he thinks I was, these motherfuckers forget, I’m one of the best in the world. 15 fights in the UFC, 11 times I’ve been the underdog, I’ve won 9 of them. Yeah, 15 times (bonuses), I’ve got 9 bonuses in my first seven fights, I’m still that motherfucker. I’m still that same guy that I’ve been since I showed up and when I’m not, I’ll be done. And I’m not done yet.”
Now that Justin Gaethje is the interim champion, he should be fighting Ilia Topuria, the Lightweight Champion, next. But, he wasn’t sure about that due to Ilia stepping away, and isn’t sure when or if he will be back. Time will tell. You can see the full interview below.
