Kayla Harrison On Valentina Shevchenko: She’s A Gangster, And I Want Those Gangster Fights

Another Female Mega-Fight?

Kayla Harrison currently has her eyes set on UFC Hall Of Famer Amanda Nunes, as they clash over the Women’s Bantamweight Championship at UFC 324 on January 24. The bout is one that Dana White called the greatest female fight in history, as the dominant former champion Amanda Nunes steps back into the octagon for her first fight since retiring, to take on an Olympic Gold Medalist and current Bantamweight Champion, Kayla Harrison. But, when this fight is all said and done, what’s next?

Recently, current UFC Women’s Flyweight Champion Valentina Shevchenko said that she wants to boost her legacy and move up to 135 pounds to fight the winner of the Bantamweight Title Match. In 2017, Valentina did take on Amanda Nunes, but lost via decision. Surely, she wants to get that win back, if Nunes were victorious this month.

If Kayla won, Valentina testing herself against a gold medalist would be a huge step, but a mega fight for the female division. Kayla was recently asked about Valentina’s callout and if she’d be interested when she did an interview with TNT Sport, and she had this to say;

”Absolutely! I know that I’m big and, there’s some criticism about that, but, Valentina has fought at 135 pounds before. If I make 135 pounds and she makes 135 pounds, and that’s what it is. But, I’m chasing legacy, I’m chasing the greats and again, Valentina is one of the greats. She’s a true martial artist. She has beaten everybody there is to beat, like she’s, she’s a gangster, and I want those gangster fights.”

If Kayla is successful on January 24, a mega-fight with Valentina seems likely, and a bout that fans would want to see. But, she has to get past Amanda Nunes come UFC 324.
