Andrade Tells a Story Of How “La Sombra” Name Was Created

Andrade in El Ring Podcast

Andrade El Idolo has been making several interviews the last couple weeks on different Lucha Libre and Wrestling media to make his presence known, being vocal about his legal dispute with WWE after he received a non-compete letter that wouldn’t allow him to wrestle for one year.

Andrade was in El Ring Podcast where he shared stories of his first years as a pro wrestler and how he thought of the name that made him famous in CMLL, “La Sombra.” Here’s what El Idolo had to say to Jimena Sanchez:

Three months after I made my Arena Coliseo debut, they (CMLL) asked me if I was interested of going through a name change to ‘La Sombra’, because a lot of people were comparing me to a luchador who passed away around 1991-92, he passed away in the ring just like Perro Aguayo (Hijo del Perro Aguayo), may he rest in peace. The luchador was named Oro.

He passed away in the ring and I was always compared to him because of his and my style. And I feel like this name of La Sombra was mentioned because I was like a shadow of him because of all the stuff he couldn’t achieve because he died too young, he passed away on his 20’s, I’m not completely sure. Then they gave me the name of La Sombra, Mistico gave me his blessing and then that’s how the name of La Sombra started in CMLL.”
