John Cena Speaks to Jimmy Kimmel About Retirement

Last night, John Cena was a guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and they talked about a number of topics including his retirement, the Oscars, and Saturday Night’s Main Event.

Below is what Cena had to say about retirement:

“It has been a crazy year where I announced this like 15 months in advance that I’m going to retire. This has never really been done in WWE history. Uh WWE superstars don’t necessarily retire. They always kind of hang on for one more match. I am absolutely 100% done. The 13th of December on Peacock is my last in ring performance. I will never wrestle again.

There’s a lot of skepticism out there because this has never been done before. I just hope people can come to grips with that because on the 13th, uh, the reason I wanted to give people so much lead time is, you know, being able to perform for two decades and people allowing me into their living rooms week after week, 52 weeks a year, no reruns. You do feel a connection with people and touring the world in this last year, it really has been beautiful. And meeting audience members and them sharing their stories and connections. It’s been great.

I wanted to give people heads up so we could have or people could process whatever closure they want for the 13th. And if you’re one of those people who are like, ‘you’re never going to retire’, after the 13th is going to be weird because you don’t have the closure you want. So, I really hope everybody tunes in to Saturday Night’s Main Event. It’s the last one I got.”
