John Cena Sr. Says GUNTHER Shouldn’t Be John Cena’s Final Match, Says He Doesn’t Need The Rub Of Retiring His Son

With John Cena’s final match just 10 days away, we now know that either GUNTHER or LA Knight will earn the right to be the 17-time world champion’s last opponent. While the final of the ‘Last Time Is Now’ tournament will happen this Friday on SmackDown, many fans are expecting ‘The Ring General’ to be the one to take on Cena in his retirement match. However, Cena’s father has now revealed that he doesn’t want the Austrian to be the one to end his son’s career.
Appearing on the All Axxess podcast, John Cena Sr. discussed his view that GUNTHER ‘doesn’t need the rub’ of defeating John Cena in his last match.
“Well it certainly wouldn’t be Gunther, that’s for sure. I don’t think that that’s a wise move. I don’t think the fans would enjoy that move. Myself, personally, Gunther does not need the rub. By the way, I’m not a fan of on the way out you’ve got to push somebody over the top. You’re supposed to pass quote unquote the torch. I don’t know whether that’s written anywhere in professional wrestling.”
-John Cena Sr.
GUNTHER has been a dominant force in WWE ever since he signed for the company in 2018. Interestingly, the former World Heavyweight Champion was also the one to retire Goldberg this past July at Saturday Night’s Main Event. For now, whether he does go on to face John Cena on December 13 remains to be seen.
