On Sunday during CMLL’S Domingo Familiar show, Gran Guerrero fought against The Beast Mortos in an intense 19 minute contest to retain the CMLL World Heavyweight Championship, continuing his legendary 1110+ long day reign with the championship. This was Gran Guerrero’s seventh title defense since he defeated Hechicero for the championship back in Lunes Clasico in November of 2022.
After the match, Gran Guerrero did a brief interview and wasted no time looking for a new challenger, but this time with a twist: The open challenge was made for any AEW wrestler who wanted a shot to try and take down El Guerrero Lagunero for the title on this week’s Viernes Espectacular en la Arena Mexico.
Two days later, the challenge has an answer: Death Rider’s Claudio Castagnoli is coming back to Arena Mexico looking to the top championship of the company.
Claudio Castagnoli answered by telling Gran Guerrero to “be careful what you wish for”, making the contest official. Castagnoli also reminded him that his comrades of Death Riders, Wheeler Yuta & Daniel Garcia, will also be appearing this Friday to try and win the CMLL Tag Team Championships from Los Hermanos Chávez (Angel de Oro & Niebla Roja).
This Viernes Espectacular card will feature the finals of the Torneo Leyenda Azul.
