Tony Khan Believes WrestleDream Was Perfect; Addresses Amazon Prime Issues
AEW WrestleDream 2025 took place this past Saturday at the Chaifetz Arena in St. Louis, Missouri. With 13 matches (including the pre-show Tailgate Brawl), fans were in for a long and entertaining night of wrestling.
It was a night that gave us a Samoa Joe heel turn after being defeated by “Hangman” Adam Page to retain the AEW Championship, and so many other exciting moments, including Mercedes Moné becoming the interim ROH Women’s Television Champion. Her match ended with a staredown with AEW Women’s Champion Kris Statlander and it appears they have some unfinished business after WrestleDream. Although Toni Storm lost to Statlander, she has some support from her good friend Mina Shirakawa, who also was on the receiving end of a loss on Saturday to Moné.
The main event “I Quit” match between Jon Moxley and Darby Allin was as violent as everyone expected, but ended with a returning Sting coming to the rescue for Allin to secure the victory over Moxley.
Although I didn’t want to take attention from how great the show was, I asked Tony Khan at the AEW WrestleDream post-show media scrum about the issues fans had with Prime Video during the main event of the show.
“It was something with [Prime Video’s] systems internally there. It does remind me, to some extent, of what happened earlier this summer with Death Before Dishonor. The replay’s gonna be available there for everybody through them and I think they’ll address that and hopefully Amazon will get that figured out but for AEW, everybody here did a fantastic job. I was really glad to hear that HBO Max delivered the pay-per-view without any issues. All of our other providers did really well.” Khan replied.
There were some fans online saying during the main event that their feed was entirely cut out and they couldn’t watch the show, so I wanted to get some clarification for those fans to see if he was aware and if there were any plans in action for those people. Another thing to note from his response to my question was how high he was on Wrestledream.
“I remember walking into the scrum with the exact same feeling in the sense of I thought the show was perfect, I thought the wrestlers delivered, the crowd delivered and the whole team backstage and in the ring delivered, and I was so proud of everybody in AEW and it was just this technical thing completely out of our control with a streaming provider,” Khan added.
Sean Ross Sapp of Fightul did report that Amazon will be refunded for the event, so if you haven’t, be sure to contact them. All in all, the event was an absolute homerun not only for AEW, but for the city of St. Louis because it brought in many wrestling fans from all over the globe to witness their show on Saturday. For the on-screen product, the conclusion of WrestleDream did what it was supposed to do: to keep fans engaged with what is to come next.
