Alex Windsor: My Dynamite Match Against Mercedes Mone Is One of My Favorite Matches I Have Had
Alex Windsor recalls opening up Dynamite against Mercedes Mone.
On the September 3rd edition of AEW Dynamite during their month spent at the 2300 Arena, Alex Windsor got the opportunity to open up the show against the current longest-reigning TBS Women’s World Champion, Mercedes Mone in a match that set the tone for the whole night and had the crowd going wild from start to finish.
While speaking on AEW Unrestricted, Windsor recalled the match with Mone and called it one of her favorite matches.
“Oh my God, well, honestly, I never would have thought — obviously, before coming into AEW and certainly when I first started — I would be having a singles match with Mercedes Moné. I remember when I first got told we were doing the tag match, I was kind of like, aw, that was a big deal, for me, just to be in the same ring as her. I remember when I first ever met her, I was injured and I think I was just at New Japan STRONG with Will (Ospreay), and I just remember seeing her and thinking, like, f*cking hell. It’s crazy that she’s here so I never — I never, ever would have thought that our paths would have crossed to have that match with her, and I remember, she’d obviously done the promo, mentioned myself, mentioned Will, and Will said to me, he was like, ‘You’re gonna end up having a match with her because she’s called you out’ and I was just like, ‘Oh my God.’ I needed to get my biggest girl pants on. Put them on,” Windsor laughed. “The match, honestly, I feel like that is one of my favorite matches that I’ve had. Obviously, going up against her, even just the little things. Having so many people behind me before the match, and then the reactions it got during it. The fact that we were like, ‘Oh, are we gonna be on first? Are we gonna be on main?’ And knowing you’re gonna open up the show. That’s just, like, okay, we’ve got to set the tone… If you’re gonna start a show, you need to come in hot and I just feel like, afterwards, that was so cool. I remember laying there after the match just thinking, f*cking hell, I’m gonna remember that for a long time.”
Windsor may have not been successful, but many do see these two colliding in the future, whether it be for gold in All Elite Wrestling or in a grudge match to settle their rivalry once and for all.
