10 Interesting Facts About Bound For Glory 2024

For the first time since 2006, TNA Wrestling bought Bound For Glory back to the state of Michigan and looking back, the show itself was pretty good.

Incredible matches, iconic moments, and a random appearance by JBL in the semi-main event, BFG 2024 was a night to remember and also it filled with intriguing factoids…Here are 10 Interesting Facts About Bound For Glory 2024.

#10. The Hall of Fame Candidates were Originally Monty Brown and AJ Styles

Longtime backstage figurehead Bob Ryder and former world champion Rhino were inducted into the TNA Hall of Fame in 2024 and needless to say it was well-deserved due to both men’s contributions to company over the years.

What might surprise you to hear is that the initially picks for TNA’s Hall of Fame Class of 2024 were going to be none other then ‘The Alpha Male’ Monty Brown and ‘The Phenonmenal’ AJ Styles.

Although Monty left TNA in the late 2000’s for a short and uneventful run in WWE, TNA’s decision to release a video compilation of Brown hitting his signature move “The Pounce”, fans soon speculated that brown might be coming back.

Meanwhile, AJ Styles is practically synonymous with TNA Wrestling throughout much of the 2000s and early 2010’s, but neither man entered the Hall of Fame on a count that the company was struggling to contact Monty while AJ declined as he was still an active competitor and didn’t want to be inducted into the Hall of Fame yet.

#9. Rosemary’s 0-4 Record

Although Rosemary has been with TNA for nearly a decade and is one of the most recognizable figures on the roster, ‘The Demon Assassin’ surprisingly has never won a match at the company’s biggest event of the year.

Prior to this, Rosemary had appeared in some form of fashion at Bound For Glory from 2016 to 2019 and then again from 2021 to 2022, losing all three of the matches she competed in.

At Bound For Glory 2024, she teamed up with NXT’s Wendy Choo in a Knockouts Tag Title match against Jody Threat and Dani Luna of Spitfire. Unfortunately, this resulted in another loss, putting her on a list alongside Deonna Purrazzo and Awesome Kong as Knockouts who’ve competed four times at Bound For Glory without a win—perhaps this explains Rosemary’s anger at her partner after the match.

#8. The Only DMC Match on the Main Card

Since its inception at the 2021 Countdown to Bound For Glory, the IMPACT/TNA Digital Media Championship has typically been defended during pre-show events.

However at Bound For Glory 2024, PCO defended both the Digital Media and Canadian Heavyweight titles against Matt Cardona in a Monster’s Ball match, where he emerged victorious.

This was the first time the Digital Media Championship was defended on the actual Bound For Glory PPV with the belt being defended a few years earlier by Brian Myers against Dirty Dango at the Countdown to Bound For Glory in 2022.

#7. Alexander Doesn’t Main Event BFG

Steve Maclin’s second pay-per-view match against Josh Alexander was another hard-hitting bout, with “The Walking Weapon” forcing his opponent to submit to the Ankle Lock.

This match is notable for being the first time since 2020 that Alexander didn’t headline Bound For Glory; From 2021 to 2023, Josh was a consistent main-eventer at BFG, second only to Sting in main-event appearances.

The last time Alexander missed the Bound For Glory main event, he was still part of a tag team with Ethan Page, and the world was still grappling with a global pandemic.

#6. Santana’s First BFG Appearance in Six Years

Former TNA and GFW Tag Team Champion Mike Santana had been critical of his time in AEW, so his return to TNA in April of 2024 was not too surprising.

Since returning, Santana has been on a mission to dismantle The System, culminating in his Bound For Glory match against Moose, where he scored a career-defining victory over ‘The Face of the Franchise’.

This also was Santana’s match at Bound For Glory first since 2018, when he and then-partner Ortiz faced Homicide and Hernandez in the infamous “Concrete Jungle” match.

#5. Four Wrestlers Set BFG Match Records

So we’ve previously talked about the records involving Rosemary and Josh Alexander, but what you might not know is that at least of four of the wrestlers at this event were also making history.

Eddie Edwards, Frankie Kazarian, Moose, and Rhino set new records for the most appearances at Bound For Glory with both Edwards and Rhino each competing in eleven matches throughout the years, while Kazarian has only accumlated ten matches up to this point.

Finally there is Moose who has the unique distinction of appearing nine times at BFG but managing to have 10 matches (with at least two of them happening in 2021 only).

#4. Masha Slamovich and Jordynne Grace Make History

Masha Slamovich’s victory over Jordynne Grace in a BFG rematch to their 2022 encounter was not only cathartic but momentous.

As a result of her victory, Slamovich became the first Russian-born wrestler to win a championship in TNA and did so at the age of 26, making her of one of the youngest champions in company history.

Speaking of champions and historical accolades, of the three times Jordynne Grace ruled as Knockouts World Champion, she racked a total of 677 days which puts her in second place in terms of the most days as Knockouts Champion.

They one person ahead of Grace is TNA Hall of Famer Gail Kim, whose total rounds up to 711 days across seven Knockouts Title reigns.

#3. No World Title Match in the Main Event

When it became clear that the World Title bout between Joe Hendry and Nic Nemeth would end being the semi-main event, fans probably should’ve realized that Hendry wasn’t walking away as champion.

While the match itself was so so, it is fascinating to note that this marked the second time the TNA World Championship didn’t main-event Bound For Glory.

The only other time this occurred was back in 2014, with the main event of that show seeing James Storm and the Great Sanada losing a tag team match to Tajiri and the Great Muta…And speaking of tag matches closing out Bound For Glory.

#2. The First Tag Title Main Event in BFG History

The main event saw the Hardy Boyz, teh ABC, and The System (Eddie Edwards and Brian Myers) compete in a Full Metal Mayhem match for the TNA World Tag Team Titles, marking the first time in Bound For Glory history that the tag titles headlined the event.

As previously mentioned, the tag match that closed out BFG in 2014 was the first tag team match to do so, but it wasn’t for the titles.

The last time a tag title main event happened in TNA, you’ve have go back to 2019 when Santana and Ortiz of LAX defeated Pentagon Jr. and Rey Fenix in a Full Metal Mayhem match at the inaugural Rebellion PPV.

#1. TNA’s Fifth Consecutive Sold-Out Event

Bound For Glory 2024 capped a strong 2024 for TNA, becoming the company’s fifth consecutive sold-out event, with over 5,000 PPV buys and its highest U.S. attendance in over a decade.

From June to October, TNA achieved sold-out crowds across Against All Odds, Emergence, Victory Road, Slammiversary, and now Bound For Glory, setting a high bar with record-breaking attendance.

This event managed to surpass the 2,000 fans that Victory Road drew in Texas, filling Michigan’s Wayne State Fieldhouse with around 2,500-3,000 fans—an impressive achievement for TNA Wrestling.
