Former WWE World Champion Drew McIntyre Set For Feature Role In Highlander Movie Reboot

Moments ago, Deadline reported that Drew McIntyre will star in the new Highlander movie reboot as Angus – the strong, battle-hardened older brother to Connor Macleod – played by Henry Cavill. The movie is being directed by Chad Stahelski, who’s best known for his work on the JOHN WICK saga of movies.

Stahelski identified McIntyre as a natural fit, playing a towering Scotsman with real Highland heritage and years of live combat performance experience and sword work before massive audiences.

Industry insiders often call McIntyre a “real life Highlander”, due to his imposing 6’5” Scottish presence, authenticity, and athleticism, as well as being born in Ayrshire, Scotland. Drew is from legitimate Highlander heritage and has spent years mastering fight choreography and physical storytelling in front of global audiences.

Drew McIntyre will join a star-studded cast that also features Russell Crowe, Henry Cavill (previously mentioned), Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, Marisa Abela, and Max Zhang.

The film is set to begin production in mid-2026 as Amazon MGM Studios and United Artists planning a major theatrical rollout to relaunch the franchise for a modern global audience.

Drew McIntyre is a former two-time WWE Champion, as well as a former WWE World Heavyweight Champion, who recently challenged Cody Rhodes for the WWE World Championship at the company’s ESPN debut of WrestlePalooza. Drew fell short in the match, but proves time and time again why to be competing at such a high level.
