Terence Crawford Is Just Him
Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford is headed into the biggest fight of his life on Saturday night when he takes on the Super-Middleweight Champion, Canelo Alvarez. But, he didn’t get to this point without his fair share of criticism. Despite being high level boxer, many fans and critics went at Crawford for his “lack” of personality, as they found him “boring” and not entertaining enough to get deals done. Despite that, he’s now locked in for the biggest boxing match of the century.
Heading into Saturday night, Terence sat down with Max Kellerman for Ring Magazine. During the interview, Max asked Crawford if it means something to him, to have done it his way, keeping his head down and just working. Crawford replied;
For sure. You know, it means a lot to me because I felt like I never sold soul to get where I’m at, right now. You know? I didn’t have to put on a show to get where I’m at now, I was just myself. A lot of people, including my promoters and things like that, say “oh, well you need to do this, you need to talk like this, you need to act like-“ nah, I’m going to be me, regardless. I’m going to be me. If you don’t like it, then so be it. Y’all not talking about my performances in the ring, which always, it should matter. You know, it’s how I perform in the ring, y’all talking about “you don’t have no personality” I’m like “okay, well, that’s your personal opinion.” Because, you want me to act like a clown, you know? And I’m not going to act like no clown. I’m going to act like me. Off the camera they say “oh, well man, you’ve got a great personality, why you don’t do this on the camera? Why you don’t do this-“ man, listen, I’m going to do what I want to do and how I want to do it. And I’m going to do it my way. And so many people criticize me, telling me “I’m”oh man, he’s a bad business man” or “he’s this, he needs to talk this way, he needs to sign with PBC, he shouldn’t have re-signed with Top Rank” and this and that and that and this. Look where I’m at, right now for doing it my way. Not his way, not his way, not her way, my way.
Despite the scoffing at Crawford for lack of character, no one can deny his skills in the ring and after this Saturday, no one can deny his ability to step into big time fights. Terence Crawford has the ability to shock the world Saturday on Netflix and become the first ever, three time Undisputed World Champion.
