John Cena On First Promo as a Heel In 2025: I Went Up There and Bombed, I Was Not Upset About It

John Cena reflects on the Monday after Elimination Chamber.

When Cena turned heel at Elimination Chamber following win in the stipulation match to earn a shot at the man he beat down, Cody Rhodes WWE Championship. The world awaited his first promo as a heel in 2025 on Monday Night Raw, but many felt it had fallen flat, including Cena himself who spoke about it at Fan Expo Chicago (via Popverse).

“I wasn’t upset. No, I failed,” he said. “Ain’t nothing wrong with that. You can learn from failure, right? I went up there and bombed. Shit happens.”

Cena turned face the night before SummerSlam and did everything he could in the right way to retain the WWE Championship but was unsuccessful against Rhodes who reclaimed the gold for a second time in his career.

Cena is set to battle Logan Paul at Clash In Paris.
