Former UFC Owner Lorenzo Fertitta Rumored To Be Involved In Possible Purchase of TNA Wrestling
Yesterday, Jon Alba broke the news that TNA was willing to possibly move nights in a new media rights deal if the right situation came along to compete with AEW.
On top of that, we now have rumors swirling – and that’s all they are right now – that former UFC owner Lorenzo Fertitta could be involved in any possible sale and purchase of TNA Wrestling.
Fightful Select has more on that possibility.
“Another interesting connections are rumors of former UFC owner Lorenzo Fertitta possibly being involved. We’re told that his name emerged from meetings this week, and earlier Conrad Thompson posted an ominous GIF saying “Lorenzo!” We’re told that was in response to rumors going around in wrestling that Lorenzo Fertitta could….for some reason be involved in a rumored sale of TNA.
Fertitta of course, is tied to TKO, as he formerly owned UFC, which is now under the umbrella of TKO. Fertitta did business with Dana White for decades.”
Lorenzo is worth approximately $3.7 billion, and made a good portion of his money off the sale of the UFC for $4 billion – along with his family casino business. He would be a major player if he were to purchase TNA Wrestling from Anthem Sports. As of right now, this is all nothing but rumor and speculation, and Anthem has not publicly stated they are interested in selling the company.
On Wednesday, TNA President Carlos Silva shared with Jon Alba of Sports Illustrated that he predicts the company will have a media rights deal done – or at least something to announce – by the time their October Bound For Glory PPV rolls around.
For weeks now, speculation has been running rampant throughout the wrestling community since about two weeks prior to Slammiversary where TNA President Carlos Silva was very vocal about getting TNA a better television/broadcast/streaming deal in an interview surfaced with Carlos Silva and John Wallstreet where some of the same topic was discussed, however, no specific network was named. Silva also mentioned looking for about $10 million for a media rights deal.
As far as a broadcast partner goes, about two weeks ago Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio shared that A&E network was the alleged “frontrunner” to land TNA on their platform, however, another network has now emerged as being rumored for negotiations with TNA, and In the August 4th edition of Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave spilled the beans on a possible alternative network being interested – The CW – which Fightful Select later confirmed.
Last week, with the news that WWE would be moving PLEs off of the Peacock app in 2026, a report emerged that Peacock is reportedly the “frontrunner” for TNA to get a streaming deal with.
Shortly after the above-referenced John Wallstreet interview, TNA President Carlos Silva was on the Ariel Helwani show talking more in-depth about media rights and also revealed the subscriber count for the TNA + app. Silva reiterated a 60-90 day expectation for a new media rights deal.
Last week, TNA President Carlos Silva sat down for a zoom interview with WhatCulture Wrestling’s Andrew Pollard to discuss the latest update on TNA’s historic 48 hour pre-sale for Bound For Glory, setting the Tsongas Center up to break the Slammiversary attendance record.
