Unofficial Record Mystery Wrestling Event Coins It In For Cancer Research
The month of August means most wrestling fans will turn slight attentions towards the efforts of Mystery Wrestling and their fundraising endeavours for good causes whilst providing some very good, and fun, entertainment for their paying supporters.
This years event has been absolutely no different as they have managed to raise $31,000 Canadian Dollars for cancer research, having held an event that has seen them break the record for the longest ever match in the wrestling ring in modern history. After 21 hours, 49 minutes and do not forget the 12 seconds, the sum for a very worthy charity was raised as Stu Grayson completed a trademark Knightfall on Junior Benito to bring an end to what they claim was the longest match in all of history.
The 16 fighter Cibernetico match up was more unpredictable than the top rated online roulette casino and it started on Monday afternoon in Gatineau, Quebec, Canada and in finishing on Tuesday morning, it surpassed the previous wrestling world record that had been registered by a good few minutes prior to it coming to its own end. The fundraising effort would have been gratefully appreciated by the Canadian Cancer Society as over $22,000 United States Dollars was raised before the ring of the final bell, and they helped to raise an additional $2,000 Canadian Dollars during the duration of an hour long post event show.
The charity shindig was a joint collaboration between AEW’s Evil Uno owner Mystery Wrestling and the Capital City Championship Combat (C4) group and it was even streamed live on Twitch and Youtube from the Centre Aydelu for the duration. It was part of their annual ‘Fighting Back’ efforts which is a campaign to give back and support worthy causes.
The inimitable Guinness World Records organization had previously recognized an event held by Ehime Pro Wrestling (EPW) back in a 2021 event as the record holding longest wrestling match which was clocked in at 21 hours, 44 minutes and 34 seconds in length, but Mystery Wrestling have already stated that their recent effort will not be listed in the world record organization’s annuls as they had requested a five figure payout to attend and oversee the event to then make any new record official.
Their point of view is that agreeing to such a payout would have utterly defeated their fundraising efforts from the very beginning, and whilst that would not have made Guinness’s request in anyway out of order given the costs, logistics, and administration they would face as a business in overseeing and recognizing a new record, it also does not make the decision to decline the potential opportunity of having the event officially recorded wrong either. Clearly the event is garnering enough press and media coverage as it is, and naturally, anyone with the money to officially beat the existing record will attempt to beat this one, which will bring further recognition, so I am not seeing a loser here.
Alongside Grayson and Benito, other competitors who threw their hats in the charity ring were Dante Dubois, Gabriel Floyd, HADDY, Jeff Fury, Joe Jobber, Katrina Creed, KJ Swayde, Alvin Turner, Cecil Nyx, Dreya Mitchell, Jason Exile, Mathis Myre, Top Dog, and Xander Orion.
Numerous referees worked in shifts to complete the event and the broadcast saw Evil Uno commentate alongside a list of attending, and virtual guests, including representation from AEW with well known names like Nyla Rose, Mike Bailey, Colt Cabana, and Adam Cole to just name a few.
A worthy cause should always be applauded, as should those who give up their time to support it.
