CM Punk: What Happens If I Don’t Beat Gunther at SummerSlam? I Get Back Up and Try Again

CM Punk is determined to hold gold before it’s time to hang up the boots.

At SummerSlam Saturday, CM Punk will challenge for the World Heavyweight Championship against the Ring General, Gunther. The two have battled each other during live events for the WWE but never have had the opportunity to meet in the squared circle on a massive pay-per-view like SummerSlam will be.

During the SummerSlam kickoff show on Friday evening, CM Punk and Gunther had one final face off before Punk laid out his final message to the current World Heavyweight Champion before promising that this was not the only battle, they would be having.

CM Punk's final words to GUNTHER ahead of WWE SummerSlam:

"I had a Hall of Fame career. I have a wife that loves me. I have a beautiful baby dog at home. I've got stocks, I've got generational wealth. I don't need to be here, I want to be here because I NEED that, I am addicted… pic.twitter.com/AWOy9J0cxn

Gunther won the World Heavyweight Championship for the first time at SummerSlam in 2024 when he defeated Damian Priest. Punk made his return to the ring against Drew McIntyre where he lost following miscommunication with the special guest referee, Seth Rollins.
