Cody Rhodes Recalls Finish To Extreme Rules 2012 Tables Match Against The Big Show

The questions have been answered about one of the wildest endings to a match.

In 2012, at WWE’s Extreme Rules PPV, Cody Rhodes invoked his rematch clause for the Intercontinental Championship against the man who beat him at WrestleMania 28 a month prior, the Big Show. The two would settle their rematch in a Tables Match, where a dropkick to the leg of Show by Rhodes resulted in the champion stepping through a table, resulting in Rhodes reclaiming the gold in a wild ending that had many fans asking questions for years.

When talking about it recently, Rhodes recalled producer Michael Hayes not liking the idea and initially thinking it would be a failure if the two tried it; however, in the end, Rhodes and Show got the craziest ending that they wanted.

“Big Show told the producer, ‘It’s going to work.’ That producer was dying to tell us we were wrong. When his foot went through the table, his face. I remember him saying, ‘I was wrong. That was great,'” Cody recalled on What Do You Want To Talk About?

He continued, “To Michael’s credit, he said, ‘Do it, and I can’t wait to tell you guys it’s wrong.’ He was forthcoming afterwards because he’s been right so many times in his career, to take that random shot, and Show’s foot going through the table.”

Hayes may have been right about other spots and endings other times, but this time around, Rhodes and Show would have the final laugh, rightfully so in 2012 at Extreme Rules in their Tables Match.
