It has felt like one of the marquee matches for this years All In has been set in stone for months but it seems the long awaited tag team match between FTR and Cope and Christian seems to not be the plan for this years All In.
According to Fightful Select, Cope’s absence after being taken out by FTR at Dynasty was supposed to lead to this potential dream match, but it seems Christian was the party at hand who wants to continue his current story with Nick Wayne then jump into this new story.
“Those that we’ve spoken to claim that Cope’s on screen absence actually wasn’t supposed to take this long, and that there had been internal discussions around bringing him back at Double or Nothing to kick off the feud. However, it was believed that Christian wasn’t ready to end things with the Patriarchy, and that slowed things down. There had even been discussion of Cope returning to AEW at Double or Nothing. Specifically, it was noted to us that Christian wants to see things through creatively with Nick Wayne, as there has been a lot of time put into it. “
Christian Cage has been involved with Nick Wayne for some time but since the start of this year, AEW has been teasing some tension between Cage and Wayne. That has been even more evident since Wayne won the ROH World Television Title.
Cope and Christian have feuded on multiple occasions since they have both been in AEW which even included them winning the TNT title off each other. But Cage has been a heel and Cope has been a babyface in their entire AEW run up to this point.
Cope was teaming up with FTR for months until FTR’s heel turn on Cope in April. Cope has not been on AEW television since then but Cope is indeed ready to return whenever AEW wants to bring him back. The other possibility on when to do this dream match is the fact that AEW All Out will take place in Toronto which is Cope and Christian’s hometown. But time will tell if AEW does put this all time dream match together.
