On today’s episode, we have the last two quarterfinal matchups as Team Musumeci’s #3 Lightweight Danilo Moreira takes on Team Gabriel’s #6 seed Mauricio Rios. Up first, in the Welterweight division, Team Musumeci’s #7 seed Nathan Haddad battles Team Gabriel’s #2 seed Andy Varela.

In the first round, both men hand fought and tried to grab holds in the standing position. With thirty seconds left in the round, Andy Varela took down Nathan Haddad after taunting a ‘sand throw’ and stole the round off that takedown. In round two, Andy gets a quick takedown and was able to take the back, he trapped Nathan’s left arm with his legs and sunk in the rear-naked choke to get the quick tap.

Danilo Moreira tried to take the back, but Mauricio Rios was able to roll out and back to trading foot locks until the round ended.

In round two, Danilo tried to pull guard right away, but Mauricio was hip to it. Again, they both started trying foot locks’s and eventually transitioned to Mauricio in top control. Constant leg lock attempts from both men kept them in constant movement until they both locked in foot lock’s on each other to end the round.

In the third and final round, both looked for ground control right away, but Danilo ended up on top in full mount, but Mauricio was able to reverse into a mount of his own. Both continued to transition into different leg lock attempts until the round ended. We head to a judges decision in a close fight. Danilo Moreira gets the win via Unanimous Decision.
