The Ultimate Fighter Season 33 episode 3 is in the books.
TUF 33: Creighton vs. Binder
This week, Team Daniel Cormier’s Jeff Creighton took on Team Chael Sonnen’s Andreeas Binder in a bout that should’ve been at 170lbs. But, we had some drama that saw things go a different way. Creighton was good to go and on weight. Binder however, had a real struggle at making weight and knew he wouldn’t be able to do it. So, he told his coach, Chael Sonnen, who then told Cormier and Creighton.
To make things better, Chael offered $1,000 to Jeff Creighton for every pound his opponent is over weight. Creighton countered offered with $2,500 per pound and surprisingly, Chael accepted. Binder ended up being five pounds overweight and Chael gave him $12,500 for accepting the fight. This is a first in Ultimate Fighter history.
When the bout went down, Andreeas Binder did well defending the takedowns in round one. He didn’t let Jeff Creighton get any wrestling offense in and he stifled mostly everything, while landing some great counter shots. Towards the end of round one, Creighton landed a big elbow that cut Binder badly on his forehead. But, it seemed Binder took that round.
In round two, it was the complete opposite. Creighton was able to get a takedown, control Binder and land some big ground and pound shots to further open up his cut. This caused blood to be everywhere. All over both men and all over the mat. Creighton did have some submission attempts, but wasn’t able to finish it and the round ended.
Both teams eagerly awaited the third round, but, the judges said no third round was needed. This caused some controversy, as Chael told his fighter that it was 1-1 and they’d take the third round. So, the decision shocked everyone. While they don’t tell us the scores, it seemed like dominating round two was scored a 10-8 for Creighton, which allowed him to win and a third round was unneeded.

With the win, Daniel Cormier gets to pick the next matchup. He picks a Flyweight bout (125lbs) between Team Cormier’s Alibi Idris vs. Team Sonnen’s Furkatbek Yokubov. Cormier is now up 3-1 over Chael. We’ll see if Chael can get back into the win column next week!
